HIST 321: Civil War and Reconstruction: Disciplinary Databases

What is a Library Database?

A library database is a collection of information describing publications such as journal articles, newspaper articles and books.

Most databases can be searched by author, title, subject or keyword, and results identify articles or books on selected topics.  References usually include a link to the Armacost Library catalog or electronic resources. In many cases, full text articles are available directly from databases. If not, they can be acquired through interlibrary loan.

Most of the Armacost Library's databases include materials not freely available on the Internet.

Remember: it is not possible to identify individual articles by searching the library catalog - databases are necessary to do this.
