Fatima Dadabhoy, Esq. obtained her B.A. in History with an emphasis on Middle Eastern History from California State University, Long Beach. She received her J.D. degree from Santa Clara University School of Law. After graduating, Ms. Dadabhoy served as a law clerk for the Civil Rights Department at CAIR-LA, handling incident reports and immigration cases related to naturalization delays. Prior to joining CAIR-LA as the Civil Rights Attorney, she worked in private practice for a small civil litigation firm in Chino Hills. She primarily handled cases in the area of Employment Law. Ms. Dadabhoy later left the firm to open up her own practice. However, her main interest remained civil rights work and she eagerly joined the CAIR-LA staff in August to pursue such work on behalf of the American-Muslim community. Ms. Dadabhoy handles cases in the areas of employment discrimination, school bullying and mosque construction. She is currently lead staff attorney at CAIR-LA.

Reza Aslan

Dr. Reza Aslan, an internationally acclaimed writer and scholar of religions, is author most recently of Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth. He is the founder of AslanMedia.com, an online journal for news and entertainment about the Middle East and the world, and co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of BoomGen Studios, the premier entertainment brand for creative content from and about the Greater Middle East. Born in Iran, he lives in Los Angeles with his wife (author and entrepreneur Jessica Jackley) where he is Associate Professor of Creative Writing at the University of California, Riverside.
Aslan's first book is the international bestseller, No god but God: The Origins, Evolution, and Future of Islam, which has been translated into thirteen languages, and named one of the 100 most important books of the last decade. He is also the author of How to Win a Cosmic War (published in paperback as Beyond Fundamentalism: Confronting Religious Extremism in a Globalized Age), as well as editor of two volumes: Tablet and Pen: Literary Landscapes from the Modern Middle East and Muslims and Jews in America: Commonalties, Contentions, and Complexities.

Maria Khani

Maria Khani is an educator who has worked as a public speaker since 1996 for The Council on Islamic Education, now called The Institute of Religious and Civic Values. The Institute is in charge of providing information about Islam and other religions in the California Social Studies Books for schools, colleges, and other ethnic and religious institutions.
Since 2001, Maria Khani was involved with the Orange County Human Relations Commission in many projects including the living room dialogue, MAALEN (Muslim Arabs American Law Enforcement Network), the Walk in My Shoes program, and attended 32 hours of Basic Mediation Training. Maria has been a member of the Greater Huntington Beach Interfaith Council since 2002, as well as a member of the Walking Together Program, which educates students, along with their parents, on the Three Abrahamic Faiths.
Maria serves as the chair of the Women’s Committee at the Islamic Institute of Orange County in Anaheim. There she teaches Islamic Studies and ASL (Arabic as a second language) courses for adults.

About the facilitator:
Patrick Wing specializes in the history of the Middle East, particularly the period of Mongol rule in Iran, Iraq and Anatolia. His current research examines the role of tribal identity and the mobilization of symbols of both the Islamic and Mongolian past in the construction of royal authority by a dynasty in the 14th and 15th centuries. He is currently working on a book manuscript entitled "Dynastic State Formation in the Mongol Middle East."
