Find Information

What are these tabs?

Use this tabbed search box to search the online and physical holdings of Armacost Library.

Articles, Books & More searches nearly all the library's collections, including:

  • Articles from scholarly journals, magazines and newspapers
  • Books, e-books and scores
  • Music and video recordings
  • Theses and honors projects published in InSPIRe, the University's institutional repository.

Course Reserves finds textbooks and online readings placed on reserve at your instructor's request.

Journals & Magazines looks up the library's holdings of a particular journal, magazine or newspaper.

Research Guides shows you guides for every subject taught at University of Redlands, created by its subject librarian.

Get started by typing something into the search box above. After you click Search Armacost, you'll enter the library's online interface. The boxes below tell you what happens next...

How do I start searching?

Input Your Search Term(s) (1/2)

Type a keyword or phrase into the search bar and click the magnifying glass to perform the search. Search for articles, books, magazines, newspapers, and more, all in one search!

For more focused research, use Advanced Search or go directly to specialized and subject-specific databases.

Choose Your Search Option (2/2)

Once you enter your search terms, a scope menu will appear. Use the dropdown menu in the search box to limit the scope of the search to a specific collection (ex. Armacost Resources or Course Reserves).

How do I use Advanced Search?

Advanced Search (1/3)

Advanced Search lets you run special searches (such as author, title or subject searches). It also allows you to immediately narrow the search results by type of information (books, articles), the language used to describe the item, and date of publication.

Select a Field (2/3)

Optionally, use the "Any Field" drop-down menu to select a special type of search, such as Subject, Title or Author.

Search Material Type (3/3)

Click on "All Resources" for the drop-down menu to limit by Material Type. Options include: books, articles, journals, video/film, sound recordings, scores, and images.

What do I do with the search results?

1/5

This is what the search result screen looks like.

Limiting Search Results (2/5)

The filters on the left side of the result screen let you narrow your search results. Scroll through the options on the left to see what you can do. Next we'll look at three useful options in more detail.

Limiting Search Results (3/5)

The Show only facet lets you limit to only items available online, only peer-reviewed items, or only items available in the physical library ("Held by library").

Limit by Resource Type (4/5)

The Resource Type facet lets you view only a desired type of information (books, scores, articles, etc.)

Use the year published facet to limit by date

Other Filters (5/5)

Year published allows you to limit by date of publication.
