How to determine if a work is under copyright

Use the manuscript scores section of the finding aid to determine who owns the rights to a score that you want to copy, perform or publish.

If Armacost Library holds copyright

Copyright for works not assigned to a specific publisher rests with the estate of Barney Childs. Armacost Library can fulfill requests for these works by performers or publishers per the terms of Childs' bequest. Contact Sanjeet Mann to begin the request process.

If a publisher holds copyright

Works that are known to be under copyright to a particular publisher are identified as such in the finding aid:

The American Composers Alliance, a non-profit concert music publisher based in New York City, maintains a large catalog of works by Barney Childs available for reprint at affordable prices.
