In addition to our print and digital collections, Armacost librarians help students navigate our modern and dynamic world of information through class instruction, individual consultations, and our annual Armacost Library Undergraduate Research Awards (ALURA). Armacost Library is also looking to enhance our Archives and Special Collections to facilitate more original student research.
Library faculty and staff know some of the challenges facing students. In a recent Gallup poll, students across the country reported feelings of worry, loneliness, sadness, and anger along with that of enjoyment. With this in mind, we flexed our creative muscles and refreshed our spaces with existing furniture and created a little library lounge. We also launched a new board games collection to ease stress and help students incorporate fun and friendship into their academic experiences. These initiatives are rounded out by various activities and events throughout the year and during finals weeks.
In addition to course reserves which helps students access course material, the Library partners with others to provide income eligible, first-generation students with some of their course material through the (Text)Book Lending Program. The Library also continues to promote open access (OA) publishing and open educational resources (OER) to reduce educational costs to students and their families. As a member of SCELC (a library consortium), the Armacost Library has saved the University over $150,000 in one year, which translates into tuition savings for our students. More recently the Library has built a technology lending program with laptops and tech accessories.
