About the Barney Childs Collection

The Barney Childs collection, willed to Armacost Library at Childs' death in 2000, contains papers of twentieth-century composer Barney Childs.
The collection finding aid describes all materials known to belong to the collection, including personal and professional letters, scholarly and creative writings, newspaper clippings, photographs, program notes, and manuscript scores.
Notable correspondents include John Adams, Elliott Carter, Joel Chadabe, Carlos Chavez, Aaron Copland, Charles Ives, Richard Kostelanetz, Gordon Mumma, Pauline Oliveros, and La Monte Young. Photographs include personal photos taken of and by Childs throughout his life, and photos of musical performances.
Access to the collection is restricted pending completion of the new Special Collections room at Armacost Library.
